state of the state fair
good people,
i am in minnesota. i came to see the destruction after the bridge collapse, and to see how i could help in the relief effort. as i was scouting the area, i was met by the Vegan Lunch Lady, Erin Lavelle Chalet and our art/film student friend from Norway: Kirsten. Erin told me about this event, the state fair, and said it was very difficult to encounter vegan and vegetarian alternatives.
We, with cameras in had, searched for alternatives and to see what the people wanted. And to see what people will handle on a stick.
over the next few days, i will post pictures and videos of me and my hosts at a place where the masses consume mass quantities of everything from cookies to milk and everything in between.
i think it's time for a recipe that celebrates maximum flavor through minimum ingredients.
Peanut Butter on a Celery Stick
Elements:
1 can of Peanut Butter, Organic/natural without HFCS
2-3 stalks of Celery
In response to the huge amount of friend food on a stick we found at the State Fair, this combination is something that is on a stick, yet healthy.
Wash and cut the celery into pieces as big as your middle finger, reminding you how you feel about this war. Put to the side.
Take the can of peanut butter, open it. Use one of the pieces, and scoop out the peanut butter onto a plate. Then apply on to others. Use your finger (that you washed) to get any excess peanut butter.
Serve.
On a separate note: if there is anyone that understands Norweigan, it would help greatly. Kirsten doesn't speak any English, and I can't understand anything she says, but we persevered. The people, no matter what language they speak, can come together for good food and good company.
in solidarity,
Mero Cocinero
