food prices soar

It is hard to really watch the current political fight that Obama and Clinton are engaged in. They are not talking about the real issues:

It's food, stupid. It's all about the food. Not Mr. Benjamin, or Bernake, or Hussein, or Ahmenijad.

Good gente, when will the leaders get it? Food.

Someone send me a recipe for some comfort food. I need some comfort food.

Food prices soar worldwide
By KATHERINE CORCORAN, The Associated Press

If you’re seeing your grocery bill go up, you’re not alone.

From subsistence farmers eating rice in Ecuador to gourmets feasting on escargot in France, consumers worldwide face rising food prices. Freak weather is a factor. But so are profound changes in the global economy, including higher oil prices, lower food reserves and growing consumer demand in China and India.

The world’s poorest nations still harbor the greatest hunger risk. Clashes over bread in Egypt killed at least two people last week, and similar food riots broke out in Burkina Faso and Cameroon this month.

4000 dead leads to loss of appetite.

Comrades,

I couldn't eat today. Listening to the Administration justifying the deaths of the 4000 soldiers, who died in Iraq. They sound like the officials who can rationalize the horrible conditions for animals in some of the corporate farms across the nation.

The Administration reduces the men and women to farm animals dying so we can survive, rather than respecting the loss of life and saying we should stop now. (And who's counting the Iraqis dying?)

I can't eat. Don't know when. This is not a hunger strike, good gente. This is "how ignorant can people be?" loss of appetite.

pass the peace,

Mero Officially Supports Obama

Yes, mi Gente.

I cannot tell a lie. I have been having a hard time deciding because I have left electoral politics for the frontline of the kitchen a long time ago, but I am writing you today because my comrades in Tejas and Ohio are deciding today.

I originally wanted Hillary because this country needs a mujer as President, and when Chelsea was at Stanford, I cooked the dorm meals, and Hillary was there eating the dorm food with the students.

But... she voted for the war, and we need someone who is going to go against this war because our collective arteries and stomachs are hardening over the loss of life. Y...we need someone who will not reject an invitation to dinner no matter what part of the world they come from. Someone who will just be that person who represent this change and transformation this country needs to rejuvenate itself, like Spring, or after eating the same meal that gives you heartburn, you stop. It may be delicious, but my friends, there is always another way to mix the goodness of la tierra, so that we do not harm ourselves.

Obama tiene the ingredients.

Though I wish he spoke as good a Spanish as Hillary, I still know that he will be concerned about what goes inside our stomachs as he is concerned about the rest of our body politic.

Please, to all my brothers and sisters who are for Sra. Clinton, please do not think this is a slight. We should all eat together and discuss.

We should not reject in order to accept; I may choose corn tortillas now, but that does not mean I reject flour tortillas. I have just made a conscious choice. And know that when I choose what is good for me, it does not mean I am choosing for you. You must listen to your own stomach. If it cries that it is hungry for justice, then feed it. If it cries and says that 100 years of war, would make it stop eating, then stop the war. If you stomach says, why the hell are you sitting there watching TV with a beer in your hand, when you can be outside, taking a walk, and meeting a stranger, then perhaps your medication is not mixing well with your food.

No matter what you choose, remember to not eat alone after you vote. Voting can be very stressful. Especially for those with conscious hearts and stomachs. Drink some rice milk hot chocolate (email me if you need the recipe), and eat with friends or family.

I am busy cooking for an electoral party tonight. Many of us are watching the results here in a secret location in Ohio.

So I wish you all well.

In solidarity,
Mero Cocinero Karimi
